OCA-NY annually hires interns for its Hate Crimes Art Project and Summer Voter Outreach. Other internships do arise when deemed necessary. Please contact us if you are interested.

Winter 2019 Internship Position

​OCA-NY is seeking a part-time Winter 2019 intern (January Start) to provide organizational and project support to the Board of Directors of OCA-NY!
 
Founded in 1976, OCA-NY Asian Pacific American Advocates is a Chapter of OCA. OCA is a national organization dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans.                             
 
Internship Description:
  1. Interface with the Board of Directors and more specifically, with the Executive Council;
  2. Provide support in grants administration and applications, program/special events planning and development, administrative activities (e.g., updating donor cultivation database and list serves), and overall development initiatives;
  3. Make civil rights advocacy and civic engagement key priorities;
  4. Maintain organizational website and work with the Board to enhance and maintain our presence on social media (especially Facebook);
  5. Attend community and organizational meetings; actively engage at these meetings;
  6. Part-time role; ~15-20 hours/week with flexibility for candidate to structure each week;
  7. Flexibility in work location available for discussion.
 
Details:
  • Supervision: Intern is supervised by a member of the Executive Committee;
  • Compensation: $2,500 for the full length of the internship, to be paid in 3 installments. Specific dates of pay will be discussed in person;
  • Hours: Intern is expected to work 15-20 hours a week;
  • Duration: The internship runs for at least 10 weeks during the Winter of 2019, with a start date in January. Specific internship dates can be flexible and will be discussed in person.
 
Requirements:
  • Be a full-time, undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited college/university;
  • Be available for an in-person or over the phone interview;
  • Demonstrated passion for advocacy on behalf of Asian Pacific Americans;
  • Excellent oral and writing English skills;
  • Demonstrated interest in upholding and promoting community and civic engagement, and in accordance with best practices in the non-profit industry.
 
Additional Skills Preferred, but Not Required: Fluency in a Chinese dialect

HATE CRIMES ART PROJECT
Requests for applications are usually put up in the beginning of April, and interns selected by the end of April. The timeline of this internship is from mid-May to mid-August.
